Well, girly girls, I missed out on my first of December product guide, so I’m going to do the first and second all in one day. Work slamming me, and all that. For December 1st’s edition, I will be featuring the Mary Kay Compact in wretched anticipation of receiving my next shipment of items, and providing a tutorial on making deep set eyes pop.

For today’s edition, I will be reviewing Mary Kay concealers and a guide on the All Things Glamorous! Sets, in anticipation of the glittery holiday season I’m sure many of you are already entrenched in.

12/1/2008

Mary Kay Custom Compact ($18 unfilled)

Okay, girls, I know I said that the Ultimate Mascara was your best friend, but this is the ultimate in portability for your makeup. This compact is fully customizable. You can pop in six eye shadows, three eye shadows and a blush, two blushes, a mineral highlighting powder and a bronzing powder, a blush and a highlighting powder… Okay, you get the idea right? Right at the top is a little place just for your lipstick or your lip gloss, it’s your choice.

I don’t know a woman who likes to continue to buy their makeup in an already filled compact, even if it is cheap. How many of you buy a compact just for one eye shadow, and never use the rest? How many of you out there buy a blush compact and realize you have a mounting number of blush brushes for the many times you’ve bought blush?

Well, girls, this compact puts an end to your makeup woes. You only have to buy the compact and applicators once! You can fill the compact with the colors you’ve selected, and only replace those when they run out.

What’s unique about this compact? Well, it’s got an ultra durable finish. It’s been purse-tested! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to dump clumps of eye shadow out of my purse because my eyeshadow busted open. This eliminates the mess!

Girls, I’m serious. If there’s anything you need in your stocking this year, this is it! It’s the ultimate in makeup looks! Contact me if you want to purchase one!

——————–

BOLD Those Deep-Set Eyes!

I know so many girls out there with deep set eyes, meaning eyes where the brow bone appears very prominent. I’m one of them. I have standard shaped deep set dark green eyes that are extremely hard to get makeup for. But, fortunately, girls with deep set eyes can pretty much do whatever they want with their makeup styles. Of course, colors depend on so many things, but we’ll get to that later!

Of course, after you’ve selected your colors, you need to know what you’re looking at. For an ideal look, you should have three shades: a highlighter shade(the lightest of the bunch), a midtone shade, and an accent shade(usually the darkest).

Once you’ve got that down, you can apply your makeup. Make sure to apply your eye liner first. For girls with deep set eyes, it is best to use a medium-toned shade of liner, just to fill in the lashes, and only line halfway on the bottom, and all the way across on the top.

Step one;

Use your highlighter shade across the brow bone, on the inside corner of the eye and across the lid itself to create definition.

Step two;

Take your midtone shade and sweep across your lid, just above your crease, and blend it upwards.

Step three;

Finally, to finish up your polished look, take your accent shade and apply it on the outside corner of the eye, and in a c-shape up underneath the brow bone.

Finish off by curling your eyelashes and applying a single coat of mascara.

Remember that no matter the shape of your eye, there’s always a way to exaggerate it farther. For deep set eyes, using sparkly shades on the brow bone, and dark matte shades on the lid are two ways you can do that. I use a pale cream shade for my highlighter that has a slight bit of glitter to it so as to bring out my eye lid and make it look less recessed, but not bring my brow bone out even farther.

Well, girlies, that’s it for 12/1. Now on to 12/2

12/2 GUIDES

Mary Kay Concealer

Rating: 2/10 stars (HATE IT!)

Yes, it’s possible. A Mary Kay consultant hates a product she sells. I bought both the Ivory and Light Ivory concealers, thinking I could find something to cover the monster red spots I get from time to time. The packaging is quite nice. It’s a small silver tube with a twist off cap. The applicator tip is definitely nice. I liked the coverage the concealer offered… BUT…. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ORANGE PEOPLE!!! I want to know when makeup companies are going to learn that!!!

The light ivory was far too pale for me to use, which is shocking, considering my foundation color is Ivory 104, which is one of the paler Ivory colors. So, I figured that just Ivory had to be the way to go. Well, no. Of course not. I forget that people with Ivory skin all have impossibly orange undertones. *rolls eyes*

Granted, the coverage is great, and it goes on smoothly, but really… There needs to be wider color choices. So, yes, I’m giving Mary Kay Signature Concealer a 2 out of 10 stars pity rating for the coverage. But, that’s all they get until I get a concealer that actually matches my skin tone.

—————————

All Things Glamorous Color Collection

Get Girlied up for the Holidays! ($40 without compact, $58 with)

The All Things Glamorous Color Collections are the perfect finishing set for any look. These beautiful pieces come in three pieces. A finishing shimmer powder in Canary Diamonds, glittery gold Nourishine Lip Gloss in Gold Sequins, and your choice of one of three lipstick colors: Couture Pink, Berry Luxe or Champagne. The shimmer powder is the perfect fit for your Mary Kay compact.

Each color beautifully compliments the glam and glitter of the holidays. Couture Pink is perfect for those of us with pasty white porcelain skin and dark colored hair, while Berry Luxe is perfect for all skin tones with dark hair and eyes, and Champagne, well, perfect for everyone, but ideal for porcelain blondes with any eye color.

Well, girls. That’s all for now. As always, stay beautiful!

Hi readers. Today, I will be featuring the Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara and offering some tips for turning thin lips into Angelina Jolie lips. If there are any questions beyond that, please feel free to leave a comment, and I will do my best to help.

———————-

Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara

Girl’s Best Friend ($15)

The Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara is truly a girl’s best friend. Whether you’re going out for a night on the town, or just going to work and doing your usual makeup, this mascara gives great results that last.
The Ultimate Mascara is ophthalmologist tested, suitable for contact lense wearers, and sensitive eyes. It volumizes, thickens, and lengthens, all in one easy step. It creates bold, beautiful eyes in two simple, every girl needs colors(Black and Black-Brown).
The special brush and bottle creates for smudge proof, flake proof, clump proof lashes that are easy to clean at the end of the day. Mary Kay uses Smart Wiper technology to ensure for the perfect amount of mascara on your brush. No more re-dipping your mascara several times. No more having to wipe the brush off before applying your mascara.
Girls, this is a crucial piece of makeup! And, of course, if you want it, you can get the ultimate in customer service from your Independent Beauty Consultant, who would be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss your perfect look!

Application of Lipstick for Thin Lips

I know there are girls out there who are tortured by thin lips. You look around, and all of the stars are getting collagen injections, marketing lip plumpers, and yet we’re stuck with thin lips and little money to fix them. Well, stress no more. Here is a simple way to make your lips the Angelina Jolie lips hiding inside!

Step One:
Erase the natural lip line with either foundation or concealer all over whole lips.
Carefully line the upper lip slightly above the natural lip line, and follow your own natural lip line on the bottom.

Step Two:
With a lip brush, fill in your lips with lip liner to create a matte base for your lipstick.

Step Three:
With a lip brush, fill in your lips with your lip color, being careful not to stray outside of the lines you created.

Step Four:
For added plump, dot a small amount of concealer on the middle of each lip.

and….
Step Five:
Cover lips with gloss for shiny finish, and voila! Big, beautiful lips, just ready to kiss your Prince Charming!

Well, girls, that’s all for today. Tune in tomorrow!

Sweet Nectar
Sweet Nectar is described as a Tawny color. Of all Mary Kay Creme Lipsticks, the tawnies have the smallest category. There are only three colors: Sweet Nectar, Sunburst, and Sunset, all three very peachy or pink colors with a neutral set to them. Honestly, these colors look good on people of all skin colors, eye colors, and hair colors.
A feature of the creme lipstick that appeals to most women is the longevity of wear of the color. It neither feathers nor bleeds due to the exclusive pigment in the creme formula. It’s enhanced with Vitamin E and Vitamin C to protect and enhance the natural moisture of your lips.
To most compliment your lipstick shade with Sweet Nectar, you should also buy MK Lip Liner in either Neutral or Coral and MK Nourishine Lip Gloss in Melon Sorbet or Gold Rush.

Application Tips:
To apply for perfection, use Timewise Age-Fighting Lip Primer to prime and moisturize lips. Wait for primer

Wearing Sweet Nectar and Coral Rose Lip Gloss

to dry fully before applying lip liner.
Apply lip liner with sweep across whole bottom lip and across from the middle to each outer corner on upper lip. For increased wear, fill in lips lightly with lip liner.
Using a lip brush, apply creme lipstick across whole lip, saturating lips with color, puckering them after to ensure full coverage.
Gently apply lip gloss from middle of lips outwards, ensuring heaviest saturation of lip gloss is in middle of lips.
And, voila! Sheer beauty in a tube. Who doesn’t love lipstick?

L’Oreal True Match Concealer

My colors: Fair/Light W(warm)1-2-3, Fair/Light N(neutral)1-2-3

My rating: 10/10 stars!!!!
This is an amazing concealer! I’ve tried numerous others with very little success. My skin is a very difficult tone to match, as it changes more than just with the seasons, and my tones vary from area to area. This concealer appealed to me because of the price, quite honestly. I happened to notice that it was on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free at the local grocery store, and had to jump at the chance to try it. I’ve loved most L’Oreal products in the past, and didn’t figure it could hurt to try one more.
I was immediately impressed by the range of shades available, as I’ve tried so many others that don’t cover, and are either too dark, too orange, or too light for my skin tone. I’m very fair, and have an olive undertone to my skin which darkens with sun exposure. I grabbed the neutral shade and knew then it was perfect for my undereye circles(hereditary nastiness from my German father).

I figured I might as well buy another one since I needed one to cover blemishes my foundation doesn’t cover, so I grabbed the Warm Fair/Light. It’s perfect for over my foundation! It blends perfectly with my eye brush, and doesn’t feather into my large, oily icky pores.
The applicator is quite unique in that it is a small brush instead of a sponge tip applicator. I personally prefer this, as it offers more precision application and better opportunity for coverage.
So, how does it wear? It’s great. It lasts all day through me running around and sweating, and even survives harsh UV flourescent lights. That’s a concealer!

——————————————————

Well, readers, until tomorrow. This is Ashleigh, signing off…….

Hello all, and welcome to the studio! My name is Ashleigh, or SubtleSpylgass, as some know me, and this is my new blog. Just to give you a little bit of background; I am a 19-year-old that lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. I work for a local grocer, and am also an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay. I’m not going to pretend I’m an expert on makeup. By no means can I claim that. However, I’ve got enough experience of my own, I feel I can reach out and share with other women some basic tips and my own opinions on the saturated cosmetics market.

I’m just recently getting into more makeup myself. It’s only been over the past few months that I’ve began to explore the world of eyeshadow, foundation, lip liner, and lipstick. Before my journey into Mary Kay cosmetics, I’d never done much more than eyeliner, mascara, concealer, and the occasional lip gloss. Now, I won’t leave the house during the day without neutral eye shadow shades, lip liner, lip stick, mascara, concealer, foundation. Basically, I won’t leave the house without my face on.

I am gradually learning more and more how to do my makeup, and beginning to get more and more comfortable with it as time goes on. As I try more and more types of makeup, I am finding more things I can do to change my looks between day and nighttime looks, finding out what’s attractive for my skin tone, eye color, and hair color.

As any makeup expert will tell you, it takes time to learn what your face needs. That goes for anything from skin care to makeup. I’m just beginning to learn my skin type, and what my skin needs for care. I’m just beginning to learn what cosmetic industry buzz words are.

Collagen, palmitate, age-fighting, wrinkle reducing. It can be a confusing world out there. I’m here to explain, in idiot’s terms, exactly what it all means.

To all my future readers, ta ta, and I will see you tomorrow!!
